what is this
a mood synthesizer. thirty-six cards, each one a sound with a name, a colour, and a mood effect. load a card, play it with anything you have, and it plays back in the scale you chose. every card is also a file you can download and give to someone.
how do i make a sound
tap anywhere once to power the audio (browsers insist). then press a pad on the controller, or a key on your keyboard. in controller mode the pads are z x c v b n m, a s d f g h, q w e r t, 1 2, bottom row lowest. in keys mode it's a w s e d f t g y h u j k like a piano.
what are the modes
controller: the pads. keys: a piano. xy: press and drag, left to right walks the scale, up turns the mood knob. theremin: hover with no click, higher is louder, or open freq cam and play it in the air with your hand. type: type a sentence and every letter is a note.
what is the mood knob
each freq has one signature effect. amber's is sugar rush, lilac's is soft rinse, icy blue's is freeze frame. the mood knob is how much of it you get. it's the pink knob on the controller and the big knob in edit.
what is the scale thing
the quantizer. pick a scale and a root in edit and every note you play lands inside it, however wild your hand is. strength is how hard it pulls, glide is how slowly it gets there. theremin players will recognise this from the theremini. custom scales go in as a list of semitones.
why is the reverb 5.5 seconds
because that is how long a good sigh takes.
how do i get a card out
download gives you a zip with the card as json (the recipe, the mood, the gesture maps, the colour) and a 24-bit wav demo rendered from this exact engine. export all in settings does the whole library. any freq style skin can load the json.
what is the effects window
eight faders that sit after whatever the card is already doing: delay, ping pong delay, shimmer, reverb, a filter that is high-pass to the left of centre and low-pass to the right, telephone, underwater, bitcrush. drag up for more, double-tap to put one back, reset all to clear. they stay as you change cards, so you can set a mood for the whole session.
how does the theremin work
the way a theremini does. turn it on with the button under the camera. your right hand across the frame is pitch, its height is volume (or, in two-hand mode, the left hand's height is volume, like the real thing). pitch correction is the auto-tune for air: at 0 it's a true theremin, every pitch in between the notes; at 100 every note lands exactly on the scale and you cannot play a wrong one. range sets the lowest and highest note across the frame (three octaves by default). glide is how slowly it slides between notes. the scale and root come from edit. the tuner shows the note you're on and how many cents you're off, so you can learn where the notes live in the air.
what is freq cam
a window that uses your camera as a theremin. wave: left to right is pitch, up is louder. it never draws your hand; it draws what your hand does. five looks along the bottom: holo (you become a blur of light), annotate (machine-vision boxes and hairlines with the numbers), dust (particles from your fingertips), plane (a sheet of colour stretched between two hands), all. save frame writes a png. open the app in its own tab for the camera, and for the 21-point hand model.
what is the stickerbook
a window of pngs. drag one onto freq cam and it sits in the picture; move it, or hover it for × to peel it off. save frame bakes the stickers in. more stickers arrive with the cards.
the camera or mic says no
the preview inside claude blocks them. open freq style in its own tab and the browser will ask you properly.
nothing is happening
check the top right of the window says live. if it says tap to power on, tap. if your volume is at zero it will say nothing and mean it.
